DIY Traveler's Notebook Cover

Hello Butterflies,

As you can see today is about DIY your own Traveler's Notebook Cover. I Love doing DIYs.  There are many kinds of TN. out there, you have cloth, leather, faux leather, and many other materials. I will be discussing the TN I make from a purse bought from a thrift store.

I have also made TN out of cloth if you like to see how please check out  DIY A Traveler's Notebook on a Budget

I have made three Traveler's note book covers, two cloth, and one leather. I have found that they are very easy to make and hold more meaning to me than the ones I could buy. So let's jump in to how I made the Leather TN.

Some things you will need :

Old Leather Purse
Sharp Exacto Knife
Metal Ruler
Cutting Board or Cutting Mat
Pencil
Small Scissors
Nail

Ok now that we have that out the way. I enjoy going to Thrift stores and finding things that I can repurpose. One day I found an old leather purse, it was still in good condition and thought that I could turn this into a Traveler's Notebook easily. So I brought it home cleaning it up and start looking at how I could alter it.

So I started to remove the sides of the purse, the sides also had attached the shoulder strap. This process took me about 3o minutes to dis attached from the main piece of the leather.

After removing the sides I laid out the leather, flipping it where the inside of the purse would be facing up. Now it was time to remove what was left of the purse lining. I also removed the clasp from the purse which held it closed.

I cleaned the leather so that I could remove any dust or debris from taking it apart. I let the leather set for an hour to let dry. I could have let it sit only 30 minutes, but I want to make sure that it was dry.

Again I laid the leather out and started measuring the leather to make an A5 size Traveler's Notebook 14 x 8.5. I found that I had to was cut the flap part of the peruse of and it would be the correct size I need.

So I marked the leather with my handy dandy pencil on the inside of the leather. Cutting the leather with the Exacto Knife and the ruler, had to go over the line a couple of times so that I would not ruin the leather.

Now it was time to Assemble it into the TN. I was lucky I only had to punch one hole into the spin of the leather.  With removing the side of the purse there was the stitch marks or holes. To punch the hole in the spin for the leather I used a nail that is the side of the whole I need to get the elastic cording through.

When it came to stringing the elastic cording to hold the inserts I decided to have 6 strings as I Love a chunky TN. After I stringing the TN it was time to load it up with inserts.

I load it up with :

2 - Cut down Composition books
1 - Leuchtturm 1917 Hard cover removed
1 - Folder
1 - Baseball cardholder
2 Dash board

The whole process took me 3 hours to do. Out of all the TN, I have made this one is my favorite one.

I hope this inspires you to make your own Traveler's Notebook!
