Digital Planning?

Hello Butterflies,

Have you ever used a program to plan?

I prefer to plan pencil to paper but find sometimes that Digital Planning also helps me stay connected with my family's events and task.

I use Evernote as its a free program and can share notebooks with people that also use the program.  I share with my husband and children, which they can check and use on their computers, phones, or tablet.

I have made 10 notebooks with different category names. I get to pick and choose what family members I can share what notebook with. For example, I have a Social Media notebook for my blog, my husband and kids don't use it so need to share that notebook with them.

Let me share with you what category I have and what family member I share with.

  • Inbox = Family
  • Social Media = Self
  • Kids = Family
  • Personal = Self
  • Brain Dump / Brain Storming = Self
  • Personal Growth =Self
  • Financial = Husband
  • Family = Family
  • Plannerbutterfly = Self
  • Planning = Husband

Each notebook holds sub categories.

For Example Kids notebook
  • Oldest Wishlist
  •  Youngest Wishlist
  • Password Log
  • Upcoming Events

If the kids have a note they are not sure where to put it they will add it to the inbox. Like my oldest likes to place a note in for a test she has next Thursday in her Culinary class and homework due on Monday for Social Studies.

Each night I will check the inbox for any notes that need to be moved to the correct notebook. When I set down to plan for the next day I will go thought Evernote and write down any task and events I have for that day, and any events that the family has for the day.

I will also set alarm on any thing that the kids may have put in for the day. This is mom 's way of reminding them with out sounding like I am nagging them.

So yes I do use Digital planning to stay connected with my Family events. I will never give up on pencil and paper for planning.

If you have any question please feel free to leave a comment below.

If you like more details on how I use Evernote as a Family planner please leave the comment "More"

September Setup!

Hello Butterflies,

It's that time again SETUP! Can you believe it September is here!

Before I get into how I set up September, I would like to update you. Right now I am back into my Traveler's Notebook, it no longer houses my leuchtturm1917. I have started making my own inserts to place in my A5 Traveler's Notebook. The reason I have removed my L1917 from my Travelers Notebook is that my L1917 is almost full, and I would have to copy my collections, business notes and some other things to a new L1917. So going to Travelers Notebook inserts I can keep them in their own booklet. I will only have to replace the Insert that I will be using for my Monthly, Weekly and Daily Spreads.

A Lot of New Changes for the Month of September!

My Travelers Notebook houses 6 inserts and cut down composition. I will be sharing with you what categories I have in each of the 6 inserts. So let's go ahead and jump into September Setup.

My First Insert is my Collections.

  1. Birthday's
  2. Holiday's
  3. Zone Cleaning
  4. Family Sizes
  5. Family Wish Lis
I set this insert up like I had in the past in my L1917.

My Second Insert is PlannerButterfly
  1. Blog Tracker
  2. Website Notes
  3. Blog Post Ideas
  4. Project Plans
  5. Editorial Calendar
These are some new things I have added, I did not add these to my L1917 as I was getting close to filling the book.

For my Third Insert is my Goals

For My Monthly Goal spread, I made 3 columns Goals, Achieve and Hindered. I also made 5 rolls for the week in the month that way I can go back and do a review each week, at the end of the month can do a monthly review all on one spread.

The page is my weekly and monthly review. This layout is more for project and tasks that I want to complete each week.

The next couple of pages are trackers, with my kids going back to school there is more for me to track like Self Care, Chores, School stuff and Electronics Time. So Each Child has got their own page.
For my self  I also have it broke up into sections, Personal Care, House work, Work, Sleep, and Steps.
This is all I have in this insert.

The fourth Insert is my Projects. This booklet houses my Someday / Maybe list, House Projects, Personal Projects and Brain Dumps.

The fifth is Monthly, Weekly, and Daily Insert. I have added the daily planning in and removed my weekly for now. I am not sure if this will work for me but want to try it out to see how it goes. I have enough room in this insert that I could have all three like I said before this insert I can see being the most replaced out of the 6.
With having more space in this insert I want to try Boho Berry daily spread. If you would like to see how she has her daily please click her name.

The sixth insert is Personal. This insert hold my pen test, marker test, how I have color coded my Crayola Super Tips and Washi tape samples.

The Composition book is for a random note and grocery list.

As always I hope you enjoyed seeing how I set up September.
If you have any questions or comments please feel free to leave your questions down in the comments box below.

How to Make a Clear Folder for a Binder Planner

Hello Butterflies,

Let go head and jump into Making A Clear Folder.

Supplies will need :

2 - Transparency Film page 8.5 x 11

Ruler
Scissors or Paper Cutter
Your Choice of Washi Tape
Hole Punch

Take one of the transparency sheet laying it down flat, take the second sheet folding it in half. Take a bone folder or scissors down the fold to make it flat as you can. Cut it on the line you folded into it.

After cutting the second sheet place the two pieces on the first pieces of Transparency paper, so now you need to mark 1" in the center of the two piece, this way you can cut it out. At this point, you will need to also want to cut the angle at the top. I cut my angle 4" from the bottom.

So it should end up looking like the picture.

Now it's time to put it all together, Grab your washi tape.

Take the two pieces of the transparency sheet that you cut and lay it on the first sheet. Make sure you line the out side together, take the washi tape and tape the long sides wrapping it around the first and second sheet. Then do the same to the bottom, with the side tape it will make it easy to tape the bottom.

When you're done you should have some thing to look like this.

Now you can punch your holes, I punched my holes on the side that opens the folder. This way any thing I put into the folder will not fall out. After you punch the holes make sure to cut slits into the hole punch, so that you can add or remove the folder and not open the rings.

You're Done!  Now it's time to Personalize it to it fit your style.

What Supplies Do You Use To Plan With?

Hello Butterflies,

So what supplies do you use to plan with?

What I use on a daily basis is my go to pen my Pilot G2. When I am setting up my spreads for a new month I will use so much more.

When I am color coding a Tasks I will use my Staedtler Finliners, I love using them the colors are bright and help tasks stand out.

When starting a new spread I will draw it up in pencil first, then use my Black Staedtler Finliner to go over any lines that I want permanent.

I use my Crayola SuperTips for any titles or header colors. With having a 50 pack of them sometimes it's hard to choose a color for a spread.

I will also use my Tombows for writing headers and color in area's to add pops of colors to a spread. I will also use them to write titles in calligraphy with the brush tip side.

Sometimes I will use Gel Pens that I bought from Target Dollar Spot. They don't have a name but they write very smooth without skipping.

To add background colors to a title that I just want a hint of color I use Crayola Twistables. Which is a crayon in pencil form.

When it comes to rules I have many kinds, steel ruler, a clear sewing ruler, and a small plastic planner ruler. When it comes to using them I prefer to use the clear rulers to be able to see lines that were already put down to space equally.

So what do you use to plan with?

Please Share down below what you use as I am always looking to try new items.

How to Make Clear Folder for Your Traveler's Notebbook

Hello Butterflies,

Have you ever want to change the look of a folder you add to your Traveler's Notebook?

Today I would like to share with you how I made a clear folder to add to my Traveler's Notebook. You are probably asking yourself why would I want a clear folder?

Will there are many things you could do with a clear folder. You could leave it where it's clear so you can see what you have in it. You could take color construction paper, cut up to fit in the pocket so you can have a color fold that may fix your theme of your TN. You can make a small vision board for each pocket facing out, so each time you're flipping through your TN. you see it.

There are so many things you can do! Personalize it to it fit your style.

Let go head and jump into Making A Clear Folder.

Supplies will need :

2 - Transparency Film page 8.5 x 11
Ruler
Scissors or Paper Cutter
Your Choice of Washi Tape

I will be making mine to fix an A5 Traveler's Notebook, You may have to adjust the size to fit you'res.

I add the washi tape to the top so it was easier to see in the photo.

You're Done!  Now it's time to Personalize it to it fit your style.

How to make a Pocket Dashboard

Hello Butterflies,

Have you ever want a dash board in your Traveler's Notebook that you can change when you want?

Guess what you can! Today I am going to show you how I make my dash boards with pockets to put in my TN.

Things you will need :

2 - Transparency Film page
Ruler
Scissors or Paper Cutter
Double Side Tape or Clear Tape
Your Choice of Washi Tape

This is the easiest pocket dash board I have made in the last couple of years. I am making an A5 size dash board, you may need to cut your sheets to the size you are using.

I lay the films on top of each other and make sure their line up. This where you will have to choose what you want to hold the two pieces together, Double Side Tap or Clear Tap.

If you use the Clear Tap you will need to wrap the tape around the edges on the two sides and the bottom. Leave the top open so you can slide your favorite pictures in.

Now to cover the clear tap you will pick your washi tape and wrap it around the film where you place the tape to cover it up.

Now it's time for you to fold the film sheets in half if you're making an A5 size. After you fold it in half you will need to run a Bone Folder or any thing that will flat your fold. At the top of the fold, you will need to cut a small triangle, so that your elastic will have a grove to set in. You will also need to do the same at the bottom at the fold.

Now it's Time to add what ever pictures you want!

I choose to cut my picture in half so that I did not have a problem with it folding around my inserts.

I hope this inspires you to make your own Dash Board for your Traveler's Notebook!

Also if you have any question please feel free to leave a comment.

DIY Traveler's Notebook Cover

Hello Butterflies,

As you can see today is about DIY your own Traveler's Notebook Cover. I Love doing DIYs.  There are many kinds of TN. out there, you have cloth, leather, faux leather, and many other materials. I will be discussing the TN I make from a purse bought from a thrift store.

I have also made TN out of cloth if you like to see how please check out  DIY A Traveler's Notebook on a Budget.

I have made three Traveler's note book covers, two cloth, and one leather. I have found that they are very easy to make and hold more meaning to me than the ones I could buy. So let's jump in to how I made the Leather TN.

Some things you will need :

Old Leather Purse
Sharp Exacto Knife
Metal Ruler
Cutting Board or Cutting Mat
Pencil
Small Scissors
Nail

Ok now that we have that out the way. I enjoy going to Thrift stores and finding things that I can repurpose. One day I found an old leather purse, it was still in good condition and thought that I could turn this into a Traveler's Notebook easily. So I brought it home cleaning it up and start looking at how I could alter it.

So I started to remove the sides of the purse, the sides also had attached the shoulder strap. This process took me about 3o minutes to dis attached from the main piece of the leather.

After removing the sides I laid out the leather, flipping it where the inside of the purse would be facing up. Now it was time to remove what was left of the purse lining. I also removed the clasp from the purse which held it closed.

I cleaned the leather so that I could remove any dust or debris from taking it apart. I let the leather set for an hour to let dry. I could have let it sit only 30 minutes, but I want to make sure that it was dry.

Again I laid the leather out and started measuring the leather to make an A5 size Traveler's Notebook 14 x 8.5. I found that I had to was cut the flap part of the peruse of and it would be the correct size I need.

So I marked the leather with my handy dandy pencil on the inside of the leather. Cutting the leather with the Exacto Knife and the ruler, had to go over the line a couple of times so that I would not ruin the leather.

Now it was time to Assemble it into the TN. I was lucky I only had to punch one hole into the spin of the leather.  With removing the side of the purse there was the stitch marks or holes. To punch the hole in the spin for the leather I used a nail that is the side of the whole I need to get the elastic cording through.

When it came to stringing the elastic cording to hold the inserts I decided to have 6 strings as I Love a chunky TN. After I stringing the TN it was time to load it up with inserts.

I load it up with :

2 - Cut down Composition books
1 - Leuchtturm 1917 Hard cover removed
1 - Folder
1 - Baseball cardholder
2 Dash board

The whole process took me 3 hours to do. Out of all the TN, I have made this one is my favorite one.

I hope this inspires you to make your own Traveler's Notebook!

How and Why I Removed My BuJo from the Hard Cover

Hello Butterflies,

Today I want to talk to you about How and Why I removed my BuJo from the card cover.

Let's start with the Why!

Going to give a little history for the why. When I started using a planner I started with a Traveler's Notebook and printed inserts. As I was looking around for different styles of inserts for my TN, I ran across information about Bullet Journal.

I fell in love with the concept of the Bullet Journal. As I was looking around for more information about Bullet Journals I watch a ton of YouTube video's and see that a lot of them was using the Leuchtturm1917 Notebook due to the paper quality.

So, I order my L1917 , when it comes in I set it up and used it for months. Love it, paper quality is very good, but was missing my TN.  So, how could I combine the two?  Why don't I remove the hard cover and put it in my TN!

Now it's How!

When I open my L1917 that there is a thicker page in the front and back. So I cut with Exacto between the thick front page and the index page. Flip to the back cutting between the thick back page and the pocket. I removed the cover from the paper, but want to cover the glue and support the spin. Washi tape for the win! I ran three strips of washi tape down the spine of the paper to make sure that it will be flexible and keep the paper together.

You are probably asking your self why didn't go for the soft cover?
I went with the hard cover L1917, because of the more pages in the notebook.

It set nicely in my Traveler's Notebook and if I need to take it out, I still can. So, if you find yourself need to use two different type of planners Join them together.

How I set up my 3 Ring Binder

Hello Butterflies,

Today I want to share with you how I setup my 3 ring binder. I decided that we need to have a family desk top planner, with school starting up and life is going to get really busy.  So, I hopped in the car and head out for some supplies I need to make the planner. Stopping by Target to check out the dollar spot I found a mini 3 ring binder for $3.00 and head to Office Depot for a ream of paper.

I sat down with a blank piece of paper to write down what sections we want to keep in the binder. I end up with 7 section on the sheet of paper, Future Log, Social Media, Planning, Kids, Personal, Notes, and Brain Dump.

Now that I had the section we needed in the planner it was time to add what we need in each section.

Future Log:

Future Log
Holidays
Birthdays

Social Media:

Editorial Calendar
Milestones
Social Media Cheat Sheet
Social Media Note/ Brain Dump

Planning:                     Kids:                                Personal:

Monthly View                 Tracker                             Weekly Review
Weekly View                   Books Due List                Monthly Goals
Daily View                       School Stuff Notes          Tracker
Daily To Do's List          Wish List                           Bill Log
Daily Hourly                   Password Log                   Expense Log
                                                                     Personal Passwords

Note:                            Brain Dump:

House                             Home Project
Business                         Family Activities
                                         Project

I know this semis like a lot for a mini planner.

This planner is Bullet Journal style with some Inserts. The  Inserts that I am using are the ones I made and will be putting up in PlanneryButterfly  Insert Library for free download.

Please keep an eye out for the PlanneryButterfly Library in the next couple of days!

When you set down to set up any planner, make a list of sections. Then what you want in each section. Don't panic if it does not work for you, in the beginning, you can always change it up or move things around to make it work for you.
